About

Lorenzo Galligani

I am Lorenzo, born and raised in Florence, a true product of the Renaissance. My journey in the world of art began as a restorer of exquisite furniture and sculptures. Adolfo Wildt, a distinguished sculptor of the early 1900s, served as my inspiration. His work propelled me into a deeper exploration of sculpture. My mentor, Vasco Baldi, guided me through years of study, imparting invaluable knowledge. Baldi, renowned as the master sculptor responsible for the restoration of Florence's Duomo for nearly four decades, shaped my understanding of the craft. Armed with a profound grasp of ancient sculpting techniques, I felt compelled to innovate and explore modern expressions. This drive led me to venture into the realm of cinema, enriching my perspective and allowing me to infuse contemporary elements into my work. Confident in my abilities and artistic vision, I embarked on the journey to carve out my own unique style. Alongside my artistic pursuits, I served as a professor of sculpture at the ADA Art Academy in Florence for a decade, sharing my passion and knowledge with eager minds. While I am recognized for my skill in working with bronze and aluminum, my heart truly belongs to Carrara marble. It is in this medium that I find the purest expression of my artistic soul. Today, I continue to sculpt in my studio in Florence, welcoming talented artists from around the world who seek to refine their craft alongside me. My work has found its way onto the international stage, enriching diverse collections across the globe.

About my work

I rely on my Renaissance roots and what I experience in my environment to guide my work. My goal is to translate this combined aesthetic into a modern vocabulary that is accessible in our time. I begin each new project with intense research on the subject I aim to explore, research guided by the need to render the inner intensity of my observations into an externally accessible representation. My desire is to awaken the natural curiosity and enthusiasm that lie dormant in the observer. I would like to be the translator of another environment, one that in our frenetic world, we often fail to notice.
